Food as art or art as food for thought?

•February 3, 2010 • 1 Comment

Had an amazing day today as my daughter Demelza was presented with her prize from the Scottish Food Standards Agency of her framed artwork and a visit from James Martin to her primary school where he entertained and educated the whole school with four healthy cooking recipes and a cooking demonstration in which he encouraged pupils to try local Scottish foods such as Rapeseed oil, Arbroath Smokies, and Raspberries. Demelza got to meet the press and now has a framed print of the drawing she did for the healthy eating competition. But best of all I got to meet James Martin!

Developing Highers

•December 22, 2009 • Leave a Comment

The higher pupils have been developing their portrait ideas by using colour and printing to give their portraits a link to Edvard Munch who they studied at the start of the course. Catherine says” I’m really enjoying doing higher art this year. I’m happy to have had the chance to do art right through my time at school so far and if I am lucky enough would like to possibly take advanced higher too. Even though there is a lot of work to be done (even homework) I am really enjoying myself and everyone’s work so far is amazing. p.s good luck with the prelims guys!”

Just Let It Go – My poster

•December 15, 2009 • Leave a Comment

My poster is about terrorism. I drew a dove trapped in barbed wire with two guns at the bottom, one is a terrorist gun and one is an army gun. I printed three pictures off the internet -A picture of a dove so I can get the detail of the wings and the shape of the head, the other one is a picture of the guns so I can get an idea of what they look like, and the last picture I got was the barbed wire so I can get an idea of pattern it has on the wire. When I finished the drawing I scanned it onto Photoshop and added the final touches. I also added the wording “Just Let It Go” this means war isn’t anything to fight over. I think people should take this message in and use it for good. by Ryan

Drink Driving – My poster

Drink Driving – My poster

My poster is about the dangers of drink driving. I drew a picture of a car, which had been completely wrecked in a car crash and wrote the words ‘think before you drink’. This is to show you what can happen if you drink and drive.  I found an image of a car wreck that I would like to draw printed it off then copied it onto my poster, and then I scanned it and put it onto Photoshop to add the finishing touches, which were adding the text. I chose this topic because I think it is very important to highlight the dangers because it causes many accidents and deaths. by  Eryn .

Who’s the Victim?

•December 14, 2009 • 2 Comments

My poster is about domestic abuse it shows how domestic abuse can happen to both men and women. A lot of people only think it happens to the woman but I wanted to show it could happen to any of them.  The image I have used is an image of an eye and an eyebrow with bruising, to show the victim has been beaten up. I used make-up on my friend’s eye to take the image and give the illusion of real abuse. The slogan on the poster is “Who’s The Victim?” at the top of the page and then “Is It The Man Or The Woman?” at the bottom. I got this idea because in many domestic abuse situations it is the man who is abused. I have also used different fonts to add to the feeling and different colours. I used red for “Victim” as I felt it would give an idea of blood. I also used pink for “man” because it is a reversed role as it is usually women that are related with pink. I used blue for the “woman” also to give this idea.  by Laura S3

S1 Enterprise: selling Christmas Cards

•December 10, 2009 • 1 Comment

A big thank you to all the S1 pupils pictured above who volunteered their time after school during the S3 parent’s evening to sell the cards! They managed to use their powers of persuasion to sell out almost all the card packs. They raised over £100 and the art department will donate a proportion of the money  to the charity SCIAF and the rest will go towards purchasing the software program Crazy Talk which animates images to look like they are talking- the pupils will have loads of fun with this. Mr Jakusz is already planning on having talking Christmas cards online for next year-nice!
