!?! Two of attending science teachers are sleeping & my twin brother & I are still awake. Looking forward to the long journey ahead driving through England to the Euro tunnel & then through France- estimated time of arrival 5:00 pm- groan…

The above Homework drawings are the best from last weeks assignment of drawing one of the latest themes from the exam board which is “Afternoon Tea” For our practice still life I have chosen a very Scottish theme of Tunnock’s Teas Cakes and Caramel Waffers! They are great to draw because of their simple form and the colours and patterns on them. The pupils worked really well on the task which reflects what they have been drawing in class to help build up their observational drawing skills- well done guys!

S2 pupils are now helping to paint the design on the safety glass. They are working in pairs on each panel and filling in the African patterns around the figures of Mary and Gabriel. The glass paint is a challenge to work with because it is very sticky and at the same time drips quite easily as well. The 4 pupils who did the first stint of painting really enjoyed it as it is an exciting medium to work with especially when after it is dry and you hold the glass up to the light- the colours glow and zing! We hope to finish this project soon so they can be put in the entrance doors of the chapel before patrons day in March (fingers crossed).

While this was happening the rest of the class were busy cutting out the fabric of their puppet costumes and then starting a still life sketch in pencil- a very busy and hard working class!

New Year- New IDL! S2 classes have started their new topic which is Lanarkshire Tourism and for the Art element of the topic the classes will design a logo for Lanarkshire with a slogan and an image incorporated into their design. For the first of 3 sessions they will look at what a logo is and discuss other tourism logos to help them come up with an idea. For the second session they will start to draw out their ideas by hand and for the third session they will be using the online logo resource Cooltext to help them come up with some professional looking fonts. These logos will be used later on in the year for a brochure on Lanarkshire that the classes will produce at the end of the topic.

So far it has gone well – one of the classroom assistants commented that it was so quiet  in class while the pupils were drawing out their ideas- a sure sign that they were excited and well into the task at hand
