Today we took a group of upper school pupils to see the Lee Miller and Picasso exhibition at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh. The group of pupils were a mix of Higher Art, Photography and Higher ESOL pupils. We had a guided tour of the exhibition which featured the work of Lee Miller an American photographer who was a life long friend of Picasso and documented their friendship in her photographs. She had an amazing life and was the first person to reach and photograph Picasso’s studio after the liberation of Paris during WW2. The pupils took part by analysing some photos they thought were the best of the exhibition and learned a lot about Lee Miller and her relationship with Picasso. There were a few painting by Picasso as well in the show which the pupils were amazed to see especially the portrait Picasso painted of Lee Miller in a Cubist style.
After looking at the exhibition we walked over to Old Saint Paul’s Church to see the Alison Watt Painting there in the WW1 memorial chapel and then headed back to school hopefully inspired to create- document- express something about our own times! Well done guys it was an enjoyable trip!
Last week I worked in a company called UPVC Door Company. The company make normal doors, glass doors, windows and frames for them. I was working in one of the four offices which was Customer Care Service. The rest of the offices where the boss of the Company was, one with a little bit of lower status than the boss and one where they make and bring financial agreements for scanning and photocopying.
On the first day when I came in I was waiting for my supervisor for around 30 minutes because I had arrived at 8:30 and work starts at 9:00. When he came in my first impression was that the guy was ‘laid-back’ if you know what I mean. Then he showed us all the offices. Me and my pal was split between offices and fortunally I landed in a better one with awesome crew.
The first day was busy as I was working from 9:00 till 16:00. Then at the end of the day I told my partners that I would see them tomorrow and left. On the second day I went straight to my office to start my work. I was given financial agreement to fill in and to sort them out. I had finished my job by 12:30 so I was sitting doing nothing for like 3 hours approximately. This time I left at twenty to four.
On the third and fourth days I was doing the same but I was more open to talk with people. I even told the guy I was working with that he was a Legend. I told him how to say it in Polish. We talked about Lech Walesa(Solidarity) and how he changed Poland and how he freed it from Communism. On the last day I did lots of different stuff from working with papers to carrying something for the boys in the factory. My partner was leaving at 12:00 so I told him that it was a pleasure to have met him and we shook each other’s hand.
Around half past twelve our supervisor told us that our job was done. He took us to the boss of the company. He gave us twenty pounds and asked us what we had learnt. We stood and didn’t say anything. Everybody started to laugh after 10 seconds. After that I thanked everybody and left.
We worked together to decide what product to chose and we came up with chocolate. We searched the different chocolates on internet and afterwords we talked about the differences between the two chocolates. We decided to call our product CocoMoco. The chocolate was inside a green and red wrapper. We filmed our advert and put in on ifilm then we could make changes to it. I did not enjoy doing this because I do not like drama.
The task that the teacher set us in the esol class was to design a product for a tv advert. We were all put into groups. The people in my group were Bea and Wiktoria. As a group we had to think about a product we had to sell. I thought about doing a shampoo and the girls agreed with my decision. We started preparing by doing research on the internet looking at shampoos. When we decided how our shampoo is going to look we started making it. Wiktoria brought a shampoo bottle to school and Bea and I were making new label and logo design. The teacher gave us the storyboard and we thought about what we are going to say. In our advert Bea was playing the girl with greasy hair, I was telling her to buy our product and Wiktoria was holding a shampoo bottle. Then we were editing our video in iMovie… It was really fun, I really enjoyed doing that advert.
By Magda 🙂
The task that the teacher set us in the Esol class was to design a product for a TV advert. We were all put in to group. The people in my group are Magda and Bea. As a group we had to think about a product we wanted to sell. I was Magda’s idea to do the shampoo. We all picked a name for the shampoo and decided that the name would be Citrus Burst Shampoo, and looked at different colours and shapes of other shapes of other shampoo bottles. I brought in an empty bottle of shampoo; we removed the original stickers and stuck on our own ones that we made in our group. We had pictures of citrus fruit on the bottle, because citrus fruit smells nice, that’s how we got the Citrus Burst name. We had to compromise on the decision.
We then had to think about what our advert was going to be like. The teacher gave us a piece of paper with six boxes on it, (this is called a story board) and we had to think of six actions. We then drew pictures showing what we did for each step. Bea was the one with greasy hair. I was he one holding the shampoo bottle. Magda was the one who told Bea to buy it.
I feel really good and even proud of what we have done. I think that this advert was quite interesting and a bit funny.
The task that the teacher set us in the ESOL class was to design a product for a T.V advert. We were put in groups. The people in my group are Magda and Wictoria. As a group we had to think about a product we wanted to sell. It was Magda’s idea of the shampoo and we decided on the name `Citrus-Burst? We did internet research to see what other shampoos were available and to see what the styles of the bottle were. Wictoria brought in a empty bottle of shampoo. We removed the original stickers and stuck our own ones that we made in our group. We had pictures of fruit on the bottle because Citrus fruit smells nice, and from this we got the name of Citrus Burst. It was a compromised decision.
We then had to think about what our advert was going to be like. The teacher gave us a piece of paper with 6boxes on it. This is called a “story broad”. We then had to think of actions which we wanted to do. We than drew pictures showing what we are acting out. Then we wrote our lines. I was the one with greasy hair.Victoriawas standing holding the shampoo bottle. Magda was the one who told me to buy it. Now that film is done I feel excited.
In the ESOL class we were asked to come up with our product. My group made a drink which we called “Fan-Cola”. My group decided the name of the product. We searched the internet for some product and we found 3 which we liked. But we chose a soft drink and we worked this product to be the best. After we chose a soft drink we research two drinks ‘Fanta’ and ‘Coca-Cola’. The group joined together Fanta and Coca-Cola and I named “Fan-Cola”. I made the scenario of the out commercial. I wrote the entire scenario for the commercial and I decided how it should be made a commercial. I feel good about it because I think that I’ve done it well.
